Mo Ibrahim Foundation is funding one
MSc Scholarship in Governance and State-building to start in September 2013 at
University of Birmingham, UK. Student must have a first class honors or
equivalent degree. English proficiency is required. African nationals are
eligible for this scholarship. Preference is given to nationals of sub-Saharan
African countries. Applicants have an opportunity of a six-month internship at
IDD and six months with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in London with a full
scholarship.

Scholarship Description:
The International Development
Department is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to undertake
the MSc in Governance and State-building, followed by a six-month
internship at IDD and six months with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in
London with a full scholarship. Applicants must have the equivalent
of a first class UK bachelors degree and be African nationals domiciled (or
permanent residents) in an African country. Preference will be given to
scholarship candidates living in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Governance and
State building programme is one of the specialized streams within international
development, and takes an interdisciplinary standpoint, combining the
theoretical rigor of political economy and the practical experience of
development. The good governance agenda occurs now increasingly alongside
debate on state-building, which encompasses issues such as accountability and
transparency, corruption, conflict, political settlement, human rights,
participation, access to justice and democratization. Governance and
state-building are of particular interest to governments, non-governmental
organizations and development agencies, as well as to a growing and vibrant
academic community.

two-year programme, with the successful candidate undertaking the full MSc
programme and then six months within the Foundation as an intern, based in
London.
What does it cover?
The scholarship includes:

3.Monthly stipend of £920 for 18 months
4.Arrival allowance of £920 The remaining six months for the internship will be funded directly to the successful candidate by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

How to Apply:
Applications must be received
through the University online application
system by the 31st May 2013. In addition to the usual documents to be
submitted, applicants should also upload a 500 word statement and CV. This
statement should set out why the applicant is the best candidate for the
scholarship. Applicants must then send an email to Mrs Debra Beard (d.l.beard-at-bham.ac.uk)
informing her of their wish to be considered for the Mo Ibrahim Scholarship and
their ID number. Please include ‘Mo Ibrahim Scholarship’ in the subject line of
the email.
